TTotD: Black Gold Of The Sun (Mr. K Edit) by ROTARY CONNECTION
Today’s track of the day is a classic reworked by the Edit Master himself, Mr. K aka Danny Krivit. Krivit is a true master of the art of the edit and he dusts off one of my fav tunes by the amazing Rotary Connection and flips it with his voodoo magic into a massive dance-floor anthem. In his latest release (released for Record Store Day 2021), Krivit adds another worthy edit to his long running series on Most Excellent Unlimited out of New York City.
"I Am The Black Gold Of The Sun" was originally recorded in 1971 on Rotary Connection's classic psychedelic soul LP, Hey Love. Featuring Minnie Riperton's soaring vocals over Charles Stepney's epic symphonic production, it is one of those perfectly realized jams you don't want to mess with -- unless of course you are Mr. K. The track was famously covered by Masters at Work back in 1997 under the Nuyorican Soul moniker, but I have to admit - this bangs far better. Take a listen, and let us know if you agree.
