ESPECIAL 011: From the SUMJ Vaults - TheFingerSniffTestMix

Unearthed live all-vinyl mix recording from the “SUMvaults": During a recent spring cleaning of some older hard drives, SUMJ found a treasure trove of recordings of live dj sets he did in NYC from the early 2000s (stay tuned for these, we will get them up for you on O&O soon!).

This recording of a live dj set SUMJ at the infamous & now defunct Bar Sputnik in Bed–Stuy, circa summer, mid-2007. SUMJ had a regular residency at Bar Sputnik for years, where he’d held his legendary FAV45s parties & spin up edits of rarified funk, soul, MPB, disco, afrobeat, & more.

On this night they were celebrating Big Dom’s birthday. As SUMJ tells it, "Big Dom was a big bear of a dude, who had no tolerance for assholes so he was a bartender & bouncer all in one. Dom's musical knowledge went deep, & he also produced many a famous parties around Brooklyn. Anyway, I wanted to do Dom proud. Ahead of the night, I asked Dom to provide me with a list of some of his favorite artists and I'd edit and mix-and-mash them up. Dom’s list included Johnny Cash, AC/DC, Prince, Funkadelic, Peaches, LCD Soundsystem, In Flagranti, German techno, Can, to name a few. We got lit & tied a few on. House was packed. Dom passed out around 4am with a smile on his face, so I considered it a win."
